Old 21 - Germany Boosts Funding To The African Elephant Fund

"In parts of Africa the elephant may soon disappear from whole areas unless urgent action is taken."- Achim Steiner , UN Under-Secretary General and UNEP Executive Director.

As noted by UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner, saving the African elephant is an imperative cause that every individual must band behind to ensure they are not eradicated from our world.

In accomplishing the African Elephant Fund (AEF) mission, "to ensure a secure future for African elephants and their habitats," projects in all four regions of Africa-(East, Central, South and West) are currently underway and positively making a difference for our African elephants. With cooperation from all elephant range states as well as contributions from our partners and donors, AEF is building a prouder network that fosters information sharing and partner empowerment. Thanks to our shared goals and purpose we are certainly concreting the path for a brighter African elephant future for generations.

Notably, on June 5, 2015 the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUM), contributed a grant of 500.000€ to the African Elephant Fund. The monies from Germany have made possible additional funding that shall be spent for conservation projects geared to combating poaching of elephants and illegal trade in ivory by end of the calendar year 2015. Many thanks go out to Germany who continues to believe in AEF's mission to ensure a future for African elephants.

With Germany as well as with the help of each and every member state, donor countries and individuals who contribute to AEF mission, building a lasting future for our African elephants is achievable.

Every day, Everyone, Every Elephant.- It is possible to ensure a secure future for African elephants and their habitats.
